CIC 2010 THEMES & STREAMS

Though the creative industries sector is continuously evolving, we use the term 'creative industries' to encompass all industries that consider creativity and innovation not only as a core component of both their survival and profitability, but also as a driving factor for their development. This includes a spectrum ranging from fine arts and design, to communication and media, to creative software and gaming technologies, to innovative engineering product development, additive manufacturing, and, of course, the many aspects of creativity and innovation. Papers are invited that fit within this broad definition of the creative industries. We have divided the conference into 6 broad streams, but if enough papers are received in a specific subject area, new streams can be created. Themes for the conference include:

Innovation in rapid product development & additive manufacturing technologies
The stream pertains to the convergence of technology in product design and rapid product development. It includes the areas of rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing, Computer Aided Design and Engineering, acquisition technologies, concurrent engineering, the management of innovation in NPD projects, virtual environments and simulation, materials, rapid tooling and manufacture, and the innovative application of technologies to engineering problems.

Performance & Technology
This stream is about research into the broad field of performance, understanding this term to cover a manifold of practices that rest on the interaction between human and humanlike agents and modes of practice within the performing arts.

Media, Investigative Journalism & Technology
This stream examines how informed and investigative journalism and media research contributes to economic, political and social development. It includes research into media and journalism, digital media technologies, contemporary Maori, Pacific and ethnic and other indigenous media and culture production.

Technologies for Creativity: Collaborations, Convergencies, Communities
This stream addresses new relationships between emerging / diverging / converging technologies and contemporary discourses of creativity. The stream especially welcomes contributions exploring hybrid, inter-/trans- or a-disciplinary modes of research and practice in creative arts, media, science, technology, computer science and education.

Multimodality, Practice and Mediation: New Technologies, Workplaces, Identity, Time, Theory and Method
Aim and scope: The overall aim of the stream is to explore perspectives on multimodality, practice and mediation to open up theoretical, methodological and practical questions and debate. The conference will be of interest to research students, researchers and academics from a variety of disciplines including anthropology, business, communication, computing, design, education, linguistics, psychology, semiotics, and sociology.

Papers on multimodality and practice or mediation are preferred, but papers on topics of new technologies, workplaces, identity, time, theory and method from all perspectives of multimodality are welcome.

Note: This stream will have papers accepted on peer-reviewed abstract only and will have abstracts appear in the proceedings.
